Prince Harry out for the first time since announcing his resignation from the royal family
This morning, Prince Harry is at Buckingham Palace for the draw for the men's, women's, and wheelchair tournaments of the Rugby League World Cup 2021. You can watch a video of Prince Harry below, and he looks relaxed and happy, chatting with the kids (we love Prince Harry). Harry is a patron of the Rugby Football League, so it makes sense for him to make a formal appearance - though of course the timing is interesting given that he and Meghan recently resigned as senior royals (opens in new tab).
The issue of patronage is probably part of the "complications" of this new arrangement, as the Queen noted earlier this week that a full transition would take time. Whether Harry will remain patron of certain charities, whether he and Princess Meghan will retain their titles, and where they will live permanently (Canada and the UK for now, according to the statement) are still under consideration.
Meanwhile, lest anyone worry that Meghan and Harry won't be doing any more charity events in the future (I certainly thought so, since they have pledged to do so on their website), Meghan made a second appearance in Canada yesterday (open in new tab) at a women's rights organization She reportedly spoke to "discuss climate justice and indigenous rights for girls." So, both parents are really busy right now, despite all that is going on.
The Rota (a select group of British press reporters who are the go-to source for royal stories) were there, too, and some of them wondered aloud if Harry would ever do another royal event like this again:
Especially Meghan and Harry, who will be working with the Rota system (new Open in tab), explaining that they will not be working with it. But the question is a plausible one: this is unprecedented in the royal family, and no one outside has a clue when the shift will officially take place.
Harry met with 21 countries participating in the raffle and adorable local children playing (English) soccer on the field. To see the event in action, here is a video:
The kids were so cute and it was great to see Harry looking so happy.
