'Sussex Royale' Posts Hidden Message in Lyrics on Instagram
Remember when Prince Harry showed up at Buckingham Palace yesterday for his rugby appointment and smiled modestly in the Royal Directory (opens in new tab) when asked about his future plans? Well, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's Instagram account uploaded a video of the event to Stories.
The song in question is "This Is the One" by the Stone Roses, with the lyrics "I'd like to leave the country for a month of Sundays." To be fair, however, this particular line from the song did not make it into their video cut.
Anyway, people are reading too much into this one. According to the Daily Mail (opens in new tab), Harry had no say in the song at all, and "outraged Buckingham Palace officials" say the song was entirely the choice of the event organizers. In other words, they want out of this story.
If you've been living under a rock, Harry and Meghan recently made the bombshell announcement (open in new tab) that they are stepping down from their senior positions in the royal family to travel between North America (especially Canada) and the UK. Meghan is currently on Vancouver Island, while Harry will remain in the UK to work out the details of the transition period, which has the full support of the Queen. Her Majesty the Queen issued a statement (opens in new tab) saying:
Today my family had a very constructive discussion about the future of our grandchildren and their families. Our family fully supports Harry and Meghan's wish to build a new life as a young family. While we have always wanted them to remain part of the Royal Family working full time, we respect and understand their desire to lead a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued member of my family. Harry and Meghan have made it clear that they do not want to be dependent on public funds in their new lives. Therefore, we have agreed to a transition period during which the Sussex's will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex issues for my family to resolve and there is still work to be done, but I have requested that a final decision be made in the coming days.
