Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Announce Move to North America
Update 1/18: Buckingham Palace and the Queen have released a statement with new details about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step down from their roles as active royals.
As new details about the logistics of the new arrangement emerge, royal commentator and royal editor of HELLO! magazine, Emily Nash, has revealed some news about where the couple will live. According to Nash, Harry, Meghan, and their son Archie will spend "the majority" of their time in North America once the new arrangements are formalized this spring.
"They will make further royal engagements in the UK before then. They will split their time between the UK and North America and spend the "majority" of their time in North America," she tweeted (opens in new tab).
Original post This morning, Buckingham Palace appears to have put an end to rumors that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to move to Canada. It told the Daily Mail (opens in new tab) that it does not comment on "speculation" and confirmed that the two will be attending more royal events in the coming weeks. However! This afternoon, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced in a lengthy Instagram post that, after much deliberation, they will be splitting their time between the continents.
The Sussexes did not specify exactly where in North America they plan to spend their time, but Canada is the most likely location. Princess Meghan, Harry, and their son Archie have been spending time on Vancouver Island in recent weeks, while Meghan lived in Toronto before her marriage, and a friend of the two told the Daily Mail that the Duke and Duchess plan to spend extended time in Canada in the coming months:
" It is true that Harry and Meghan will be spending a significant amount of time in Canada over the next few months and probably beyond. Right now they are beginning discussions with their families about their future plans. Those discussions are in the very early stages. It is a very deliberate and serious process and they intend to respect that. However, it is clear that they are on a unique path that sets them apart from others and they are very much considering what the future looks like for them. This may include being based in Canada and moving away from the HRH title. It's been a very difficult year for us, being newly married and having young children. Everything is on the table."
Just yesterday, Meghan expressed how much her family of three enjoyed their time in the country. Not only were they able to experience the warmth of the people, but they were able to walk and see the beauty of Canada and watch Archie "gasp" as they walked. It was important for us to start the year here and show our appreciation."
