Meghan Markle's estranged father throws shade at her decision to step down from her royal duties

Thomas Markle (open in new tab) is talking behind my back. Again.

Meghan Markle's estranged father (opens in new tab) weighs in on his daughter and son-in-law Prince Harry's decision to step down from his royal duties, and his views are predictably gloomy.

"I'm disappointed because she's actually got every girl's dream," Thomas is reported in footage (opens in new tab) of a documentary about the news for Channel 5 in the UK.

"Every young girl wants to be a princess, she's got it, and now she's throwing it away.

But the 75-year-old didn't stop there; according to E! News (opens in new tab), he went on to say, "I've seen a lot of young girls who have been married for a long time. When they get married, they have an obligation, and that obligation is to become a member of the royal family and to represent the royal family, and it would be foolish not to do so. This is one of the greatest and longest lived institutions ever. They are destroying it. They are cheapening it. They are making it shabby. They are turning it into Wal-Mart with a crown. It's ridiculous. They shouldn't be doing this."

"I think we're both lost souls at this point. I don't know what they want." [Of course, as usual, there is no real basis for Thomas' claims. The Queen made it clear in an official statement this weekend (open in new tab) that the decision was made by the royal family together, and that Harry and Meghan (open in new tab) have her full support on this matter.

Furthermore, the Queen has made it clear that her support extends to Princess Meghan as well.

"I want to thank you for all your dedicated work in this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and I am especially proud that Princess Meghan has quickly become part of our family," the Queen wrote in a statement (opens in new tab).
