World Mourns the Death of NBA Legend Kobe Bryant
5:41 p.m. Update: The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed at a press conference that there were nine people on board the helicopter, eight passengers and one pilot. There were no survivors. Various news outlets have confirmed that Bryant and his daughter were among the victims, but the sheriff said he would not confirm this until the coroner does his job.
Update 4:17 p.m.: A representative for Kobe Bryant (opens in new tab) confirmed to TMZ (opens in new tab) that Bryant's 13-year-old daughter Gianna (aka Gigi) was killed in the crash along with her father. They were reportedly heading to Giana's traveling basketball game. Gigi's teammates and their parents were also on board.

Details are still unclear, but the media outlets reported that Bryant, a five-time NBA champion and 18-time All-Star, was flying in a helicopter over Calabasas when it caught fire and crashed. Five people, including Bryant, were killed.
