Selena Gomez Sends Emotional Message to Childhood Best Friend Demi Lovato After Grammy Awards

One of the standout moments at last night's Grammy Awards was Demi Lovato's amazing comeback performance (opens in new tab): she sang her new song "Anyone," an emotional and deeply personal song she wrote just before she overdosed in 2018. And while her childhood best friend Selena Gomez did not attend the awards ceremony, she watched Lovato's performance on TV and wrote a heartfelt message on her Instagram Story.

Along with a photo of Lovato on stage, Gomez wrote, "I wish I had words to describe how beautiful, inspirational, and fitting this moment was. Demi ...... I'm so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery."

The former Disney stars appear to have grown closer again in recent years after a documented, intense falling out in their late teens. In an interview with Elle (opens in new tab) shortly after Lovato's overdose, Gomez expressed her love for her former Disney co-star. 'What I'm trying to say is that I reached out to him privately. I didn't do it publicly. I didn't want to. I'm... I love her; I've known her since I was seven years old. That's why ...... That's ...... That's how it is," she said, and whether or not the two have renewed old friendships (and let's be honest, who hasn't grown apart from a childhood friend?), it's nice to see that Lovato and Gomez care for and respect each other.

Lovato resumed her Grammy performance after being overwhelmed with emotion and crying throughout. She explained to New Music Daily (opens in new tab), "It was about a week after I was in the hospital, and I remember finally waking up and listening back to the song I had just recorded and thinking, 'If there is a moment where I can come back from this, I want to sing this song.'"

"What an incredible night. I'm back on stage after almost two years," Lovato wrote on Instagram after the Grammys (opens in new tab). I'm so moved. Thank you all for your love, support, and for sharing this moment with me." Congratulations on a great performance, Demi!
