Prince Harry reveals he was in therapy for three years after losing his mother.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) have finally given us a glimpse of life after the throne. If the couple's appearance in Miami this week is any indication, it will be brutally honest and raw.

This week, Harry spoke at the Alternative Investment Summit hosted by JP Morgan (opens in new tab), and sources inside the event told Page Six (opens in new tab) more about the royal story that no longer works.

According to sources, Meghan was the first to take the stage, introducing her husband (opens in new tab) and talking a bit about her love for Harry (opens in new tab). But the main event was Harry's speech (opens in new tab), in which he delved deeply into the trauma he dealt with after the death of his late mother, Princess Diana (opens in new tab) According to Page Six's source,

"Harry talked about mental health and overcoming the trauma of losing his mother. He talked about how he has been in therapy for the past three years to help him overcome the trauma of losing his mother.

"He talked about how events in his childhood have affected him and that he has consulted with a mental health professional.

"Harry also touched on Meggitt, saying that although it was very difficult for him and Princess Meghan, he did not regret his decision to step down as senior royalty because he wanted to protect his family. He does not want Princess Meghan and her son Archie to go through what he went through as a child."

There is much to unpack there. First, the revelation that he has spent years in therapy (which seems to be ongoing) is very powerful. Even as it becomes more acceptable to talk about mental health, a strong stigma still exists, especially in Harry's home country, the UK, which often makes people feel "weak" and isolated (opens in new tab). Harry's story (opens in new tab) is a great example of how there is no time limit to benefiting from working with a mental health professional.

Then there is the royal exit. Harry has not spoken much publicly about his and Meghan's decision to step down (open with a new tab) from their work as senior members of the royal family. His remarks in a speech in Miami suggest that it is something that Harry has been thinking about for years (open in new tab), perhaps even before he himself became a husband and father.
