Demi Lovato Explains the Super Personal Meaning Behind Her New Tattoo
What a comeback for Demi Lovato, returning to the stage (open in new tab) after her 2018 overdose with two stunning, internet-shaking performances: she performed at the Grammy Awards with her emotional new song " debuted "Anyone" and nailed the national anthem at the Super Bowl. In preparation for her return, Lovato stopped posting on social media and added a new tattoo to her collection while offline. On Tuesday, she posted a photo of the intricate new ink on her upper back, just to the right of her "warrior" tattoo, explaining what each side represents to her.
The tattoo, created by celebrity artist Alessandro Capozzi, depicts three white doves suspending an angel by a string, her wings melting as she rises. According to Lovato, she came to Capozzi without a design in mind. 'Getting him to tattoo me was a new experience,' she wrote on Instagram. 'I told him about my life and where I was at that moment.'
"The fallen angel being lifted up by three pure angelic doves (the Holy Trinity) was her inner light being guided by a higher consciousness, and the collapse of her dark wings represented the darkness I was trying to shed," Lovato explained. Appreciating Capozzi's work (who was introduced to her new manager, Scooter Brown), she added, " My only regret is that I will not be able to physically see this amazing artwork."
