Watch Meghan Markle Surprise A-listers on the Cover of Vogue
For those of you who did not instantly purchase the September 2019 issue of British Vogue and tape it to your bedroom wall, know that Meghan Markle has channeled her inner Miranda Priestly and totally taken it over (opens in new tab). As guest editors, Meghan chose 15 "amazing female changemakers who have been a commendable influence in recent times and who are going to reshape society in radical and positive ways in the future" (opens in new tab).Jameela Jamil (opens in new tab), Greta Thunberg (open in new tab), Gemma Chan (open in new tab), Laverne Cox, and Jane Fonda (open in new tab) were among the changemakers featured on the cover of the Forces for Change issue. But the best part of all this is not that Princess Meghan is a future editor (opens in new tab) (although that is pretty exciting), but that these cover stars didn't even know they were behind this issue until Meghan surprised them.
This afternoon, British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful posted a video of the moment he and Meghan called everyone and told them why Meghan wanted to celebrate them. The short film begins with Meghan and Edward talking about how the project came about. Princess Meghan initially contacted Edward for help with Smart Works (opens in new tab) and then gave him a little push to see if he could become the first ever guest editor of the magazine. As any wise person would, Edward said, "Yes, please!"
It was like that.
After talking about the shocking magazine they produced (opens in new tab), Megan surprised Edward with a party hat.
In short, I can just imagine being Yara Shahidi (opens in new tab) and hearing Meghan say, "No kidding, you were the first name I said I wanted on the cover." and totally crying at the club. And then Jane Fonda says, "Meghan, I am so proud of you for using your amazing platform and your powerful voice.
If this doesn't fill your heart with pure joy, please turn up the volume and watch it again and consider asking for help.
