Kate Middleton Reveals She Was Secretly "Scared" During Photo Call with Prince George After Giving Birth
Kate Middleton (opens in new tab) speaks honestly about one of the biggest pressures for a royal mom (opens in new tab): a post-birth photo call.
In case you missed it, Kate posed for a photo call (opens in new tab) with all three children just hours after their birth. The traditional royal baby photo calls all take place on the steps of the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital (open in new tab), and Kate looks perfect (open in new tab) and poised each time.
But in a candid new interview on the "Happy Mum, Happy Baby" podcast (opens in new tab), Kate admitted that she was "terrified" to appear for her first post-baby photocall since welcoming Prince George in July 2013 (opens in new tab (opens in new tab).
"Yeah, I was a little scared, a little scared, to be honest," Kate told host Giovanna Fletcher about going out for a photocall to debut Prince George to the world.
Kate explained why she decided to keep the tradition (open in new tab) of a post-birth photocall, despite her own misgivings:
"Everyone has been so supportive, William and I, this is something we are all excited about and the support the public has shown us We are very grateful for the But just as much, there were a lot of mixed emotions, coupled with the newborn baby, inexperienced parents, and the anxiety of not knowing what to expect."
"We were very excited to be here,"
"We were very excited to be here.
During the interview, which was scheduled to promote her "Five Big Questions" survey (open in new tab) on early childhood development, Kate also opened up about other key moments in her parenting journey (open in new tab). Here are the highlights:
"Wow, wow. Like I said, it's phenomenal. There is no way a human body can do that. He was so kind. And I took a certain comfort in the fact that he was a happy, healthy boy.
"I didn't know. But to see your husband William and all that. It was really special to see the look of pure joy on his face."
"Everything.
"Everything passed in a blur. It was a hot day and night, and there was a terrible thunderstorm, so I didn't get much sleep, but George did. I wanted to go home. I wanted to go home, because for me it was not a place I wanted to hang out, because of all the memories of when I was sick and in the hospital (with acute morning sickness). So I was desperate to go home and get back to my daily routine." [age 19] [age 20] "We were like, 'What do we do ...... in my arms' and 'How am I going to do this? ' We tried to practice at home with a baby that was like a little doll, but it didn't work out the way we planned, so it was hard to do that on the world stage.
