Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to continue security team after royal departure?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) will apparently have a very tight security posture after leaving the royal family this spring.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex answered the public's burning questions about the royal abdication in a new statement (opens in new tab) regarding the royal transfer in spring 2020: (opens in new tab)

What we know at this point is that the Sussex security team (opens in new tab) is present, all we know is that it is "effective." The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wrote on their official website:

"We have agreed that effective security will continue to be required to protect the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their son. This is based on the Duke's official profile due to his Royal birth, his military service, the Duchess' own independent profile, and the shared threat and danger levels that have been specifically documented over the last few years. For security reasons I cannot give any further details as this information is confidential."

This last line is italicized for emphasis by the Sussexes (opens in new tab) themselves. It means that royal fans will likely not get a clear answer as to the extent and cost of Harry and Meghan's post-exit security (opens in new tab) details.

However, since the couple have expressed a desire to be financially independent after they step down from their royal duties, their security, like most expenses, will be borne by Prince Charles (opens in new tab) in the short term, and then, once Harry and Meghan are independent and earning an income, Harry and Meghan themselves will likely bear the burden (opens in new tab).
