Kate Middleton's brother James is making a very personal documentary about dogs and mental health
James Middleton spoke publicly about his experience with acute clinical depression last year, writing in a candid essay (opens in new tab) It is not mere grief. It is a disease, a cancer of the mind." He also talks about the important role his beloved dogs played in his recovery. So it makes total sense that he is fronting a new documentary, James Middleton's Super Dogs, about dogs and the positive impact they have on mental health.
A source told The Sun that "mental health is a topic very close to both James and his sister's hearts, and he credits his dogs for helping him out of his dark days." He continued, "The show will be about him talking to people who are suffering and seeing how dogs can affect their moods and depression."
In his 2019 essay on depression (open in new tab), Middleton wrote, "I wouldn't wish a sense of worthlessness and hopelessness, isolation and loneliness on my worst enemy. It was driving me crazy. He traveled with his dog to the Lake District in northwest England, where he realized he needed to seek treatment.
About his documentary, Middleton explained that "my own dog played a key role in my recovery from clinical depression," adding, "In light of this, I want to honor the important role dogs play in our lives and the unconditional love and support they give us." According to his Instagram bio, his puppies, Ella, Zulu, Inca, Luna, and Mabel, seem to deserve a never-ending supply of treats.
