Queen "sensitive" to what Prince Harry is going through because of Princess Margaret's experience
Queen Elizabeth (open in new tab) is very sensitive about the controversial departure of Prince Harry (open in new tab) from the royal family.
According to royal historian Robert Lacey (open in new tab), the decision by Harry and his wife Meghan Markle (open in new tab) to step down from their royal duties is shocking to many of us, but to the queen it feels like history repeating itself.
"The Queen is not a member of the royal family.
"The Queen has a special sensitivity to what Harry has been through because she is so close to Margaret and has seen the same drama and tension unfold two generations ago," Lacey told People (opens in new tab). 'Brother-sister syndrome is a perpetual problem. The system has not found a way to give them the recognition they need."
As anyone who has studied modern royal history (or watched Netflix's "The Crown" (opens in new tab)) knows, Princess Margaret (opens in new tab), Elizabeth's sister, is the royal " life as a "spare" had her own difficulties when it came to living as a "spare.
"The queen will be very disappointed," Lacey said of how Harry and Meghan's royal exit (opens in new tab) is likely to affect her." Her job is to survive." [Of course, it's not just that Elizabeth needs to survive personally. When royal experts like Lacey speak of the long reigning queen's emphasis on survival, what they are referring to is her dedication to the survival of the monarchy itself (opens in new tab).
According to royal biographer Ingrid Sward (opens in new tab), the queen is not obsessed with abdicating, but has taken very concrete steps to ensure that Harry and Meghan have the option to return if they wish to return to the inner circle of the royal family.
"[The Queen] is not obsessed with abdicating," she told People. 'The Queen is very pragmatic. She keeps the door open especially for Harry.
