Janet Mock and Ryan Murphy Tag Team for New Netflix Film

Mark your calendars, "Pose" fans. Janet Mock and Ryan Murphy, the production duo behind the hit FX show (open in new tab), are working on a new film for Netflix.

The project tells the infamous true story of journalist Janet Cook, a Washington Post reporter in the 1980s who won a Pulitzer Prize for a feature called "Jimmy's World" (opens in new tab) about an 8-year-old heroin addict. The article was later found to be a complete fabrication (opens in new tab), and Cook was forced to return the award.

According to Deadline (opens in new tab), Mock will direct and write the screenplay. This is her first feature film and the first project to come out of her historic Netflix deal (opens in new tab). Mock, Martel, and Murphy will produce, so expect a lot of Oscar buzz. (Mock told Deadline, "Directing the Janet Cook story is a full-circle moment for me. I started my career as a journalist and dreamed of telling stories that mattered for a living." Mock and Murphy collaborate frequently and are currently producing some of the best shows on television/streaming platforms In addition to their collaboration on Pose, Mock directed an episode of The Politician and wrote two episodes of Murphy's highly anticipated upcoming series (opens in new tab) Hollywood (opens in new tab).
