Rothy's Introduces Sustainable Bags Made from Ocean-Derived Plastic
This is big, big news: Rothy's, known for its sustainable shoes made from water bottle threads, has announced its biggest new product of the year. It's a bag. [Essential Tote (opens in new tab), Handbag (opens in new tab), Essential Pouch (opens in new tab), Dual Zip Crossbody (opens in new tab), and The Catch-All large (opens in new tab) (open in new tab), Mid (open in new tab), and Mini (open in new tab). As with the shoes, the signature blue thread is visible somewhere on the bags (above the edge on the totes), and many have gorgeous contrasting stripes and colors. The bags are also, as you might guess from the shoes, durable. (In addition to traditional yarns, Rothy's mixes in marine plastic yarns that are "collected within 30 miles of the shoreline or marine environment." Given the difficult problem of plastics in the oceans, this feels especially thoughtful.
The bags are as luxurious as the shoes (you'd never guess they were made from plastic bottles) and machine-washable.
Of these, I would most likely try the poppy or gray handbag first. Honestly, the Desert Sandwich tote is also very cute and feminine. The pouch would be perfect for a night out with my cell phone, credit cards, and keys. Although, no kidding, I would probably put a lot more in it.
If you're wondering what to put in your shopping cart, you can see more product images below.
Ugh, it's luscious and irresistible!
