Elizabeth Warren withdraws from presidential race

Senator Elizabeth Warren has dropped out of the 2020 presidential race (opens in new tab). The New York Times (opens in new tab) reported the news at 10:37 AM EST on Thursday, March 5, revealing that Warren had planned to tell her staff later this morning. At 12:09 p.m. EST, Warren shared the Medium article (opens in new tab).

"I know how hard you all have been working. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you've poured into this campaign," she said by phone.

"I know that when we left, this was not what you all wanted. It's not the call I wanted to make. But let no disappointment cause me or any of you to lose sight of what we have accomplished. We did not reach our goals, but what we accomplished together - what you have accomplished - has made a lasting difference. Not on the scale we would have liked, but it was significant, and that change will ripple out for years to come."

It was a bleak day for progressive Americans who believed Warren had a chance to defeat the Democratic nominee and ultimately Donald Trump. According to the Times, Warren has no immediate plans to announce her endorsement.

Warren's loss has many (mostly women) reflecting that the senator's plans to build a better America will sadly never be realized.
