Katy Perry Explains How She Hid Her Pregnancy, 'Longest Secret Ever'
Katy Perry announced that she is expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom by revealing her pregnant belly (opens in new tab) in the music video for "Never Worn White." After the video's release, she shared her Instagram Story, explaining that she had been hiding her pregnancy for the past few weeks.
On Twitter after the announcement, Perry wrote, "omg so glad I don't have to suck it in anymore," adding, "or carry around a big purse lol." The singer was referring to her appearance in paparazzi photos of her taken over the past few weeks. In a shot taken Tuesday (opens in new tab) of her in an Adidas sweatshirt, she was carrying a large bag.
She told viewers on her Instagram Live that she and Bloom are excited to welcome their first baby soon. Bloom has a 9-year-old son, Flynn, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
"I'm excited, we're excited, we're happy," Perry said. 'It's probably the longest secret I've ever kept. We wanted to tell you guys through music in the best way we could."
She added that she had to make the announcement soon because she couldn't hide it anymore. It's becoming quite noticeable."
People (open in new tab) reported last February that Perry and Bloom were looking forward to starting a family together soon. A source said at the time, "Katie is slowing down her career this year. [She and Bloom] want to get married and start a family as soon as possible."
Perry commented on their wedding plans in a new interview published last week, saying that marriage is more important to them than the ceremony. "I call myself a 'bridezilla' as opposed to a 'bridezilla,'" Perry told Australia's Stellar (opens in new tab) magazine (opens in new tab). "Orlando and I have a consistent approach. It's not about the party, it's about getting people together who will hold us accountable when things get really difficult. Because it's a really great thing to do, and a really hard thing to do. It's a fact of life when you're with people who challenge you to be the best you can be."
