Demi Lovato References Overdose in 2018 in New Music Video
Demi Lovato has released a new single, "I Love Me". The song speaks candidly about her life over the past few years, including her recent health issues.
To state the obvious first, the song is gorgeous. She talks about the self-loathing comments in her head, the criticism she internalizes, and learning to love and truly love herself. It begins with her literally fighting with herself and culminates in a scene where she walks the streets as an empowered human being and passes a woman being loaded into an ambulance. This is a clear reference to her overdose, in my opinion. And it was at this very moment that I began to actively cry.
In the interview, she explained why she had relapsed, that her previous team had been "controlling" and had taken away her cell phone, sugar (even fruit!) from her room, etc. She explained that her previous team had been "controlling" to the point of taking away her cell phone and removing sugar (even fruit!) from her room.
