27-year-old musician and actor Nick Jonas and his wife, actress Priyanka Chopra (open in new tab), are celebrating Holi, the Hindu festival that marks the beginning of spring in India.
Also known as the "festival of colors," this traditional Hindu holiday is celebrated throughout the country and involves singing, dancing, and people pouring colorful powder and water on friends and family.
Not surprisingly, Holi celebrations are festive and joyous. Nick and Priyankaar's (opens in new tab) Holi celebrations (as Jonas noted on Instagram, the annual two-day festivities are taking place early this year, on March 9-10) look great in photos.
"First time in Holi! (5 days early)," Jonas captioned a series of photos of the celebration. 'So much fun celebrating with great people in my second home, India.' #holi @_iiishmagish @anandpiramal @priyankachopra."
After sharing several photos (opens in new tab) of him and Chopra smiling while covered in colorful powder, Jonas then named the occasion, shared a photo of his wife posed with a couple of professional portraits.
"She makes me smile a lot. #holi," Jonas captioned the lovey-dovey portrait, which was taken against a bright pink background.
Chopra shared several holi photos of herself, including some of Jonas' colorful shots (opens in new tab).
In addition to sharing another photo from the couple's very pink Holi photo shoot, Chopra shared several photos taken with the family during the same shoot.
"This year Holi came early for us... We had so much fun celebrating with friends and family back home," Chopra captioned a gallery of family photos.
"Thanks for such a great time. We love you!"For those who don't know Holi, the festival has incredible cultural significance.
According to HoliFestival.org (opens in new tab), "By celebrating the various legends associated with Holi, people reaffirm the power of truth.
The site also notes that while Holi is traditionally a Hindu holiday, it has also become an important secular holiday in India:
"Holi helps to bring society together and strengthen the secular fabric of our country. The festival is celebrated by non-Hindus as well, as everyone wants to participate in such a colorful and joyful festival. Also, according to Holi tradition, on Holi, enemies become allies and any hardships are forgotten. Besides, on this day, rich and poor alike, everyone celebrates the festival in a spirit of harmony and brotherhood. In the evening, people visit friends and relatives, exchanging gifts, sweets, and greetings. This serves to invigorate relationships and strengthen the emotional bonds between people.
