Body Language Expert on the Nervousness Prince Harry Feels in Front of the Queen
On Monday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their final appearance as senior royals at the annual Commonwealth service at Westminster Abbey in London (opens in new tab). The couple announced in January that they were stepping down from their royal duties (opens in new tab) to focus on their son, Archie, and the launch of a new nonprofit organization. However! Family is family, after all, and this too shall pass (probably). Just this month, the Queen sat down to have a "heart to heart" with Harry. (Open in new tab) But the Commonwealth ceremony was the first time the Queen and her beloved grandson made a public appearance. Although they did not walk together, the body language between them spoke volumes. Of particular note was the moment when the Queen took her seat in the front row of the ceremony, with Harry and Meghan in the row behind her. It can be seen below starting at 16:30.
Patti Wood, body language expert and author of Snap: Making the Most of First Impression, Body Language, and Charisma (opens in new tab) Patti Wood, an expert on body language, gave Marie Claire the lowdown on how the couple and the queen really feel, based on their body language. 'The Queen looks down and doesn't see them, while Queen Meghan smiles. It's made with eye contact, so I would say it's pretty genuine," Wood says.
She added, "If you look at her hand, she's holding a piece of paper, but notice that her fingers are relaxed and open. She is not holding the paper nervously. She is very relaxed. That means she is okay. She is okay. She is fine."
"But when I go to him, when I look at him, his head is downcast, he's trying. He's looking at his grandmother. I see his eyebrows in that picture, and it bothers me," Wood continues. Wood continues. 'You wouldn't know he was my grandson in that picture. It shows a change in his status and his feelings."
"It's not negative. Just clarifying," she explains.
Interesting! I wonder how that four-hour meeting (open in new tab) actually went.
