Vanessa Hudgens Issues Apology for Calling Coronavirus Concerns "Bullshit"

Now that social distance is our new normal (open in new tab), our favorite celebrities are finding creative ways to stay connected with their fans. Vanessa Hudgens is a prime example, see her High School Musical TikTok (open in new tab) video. But instead of continuing to make goofy videos and chat with her followers to spread hope in these confusing times, Vanessa decided to make insensitive comments about COVID-19 (a virus that has been named a pandemic and continues to claim lives worldwide).

On Monday, Vanessa appeared on Instagram Live and said, "Yeah, until July, it sounds like bullshit. But at the same time ...... Even if everyone is infected, so ...... It's terrible that people are dying, but it's inevitable. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be doing this right now."

Naturally, her comments received a lot of backlash online. In response, one Twitter user wrote, "Hey @VanessaHudgens, I'm not asking you to cancel or anything. And maybe your parents too. Tell your followers you were wrong, they need to stay home". (This was the better end of the rebellious spectrum.)

For damage control, Vanessa responded on her Instagram Story.

"Hey guys, I did an instagram live yesterday and today I realized that some of my comments were taken out of context. It's a crazy time. It's a crazy, crazy time and I'm home, in isolation. 'Yes, by no means am I making light of the situation. I am at home. So stay inside."

The follow-up did not help matters because it lacked an actual apology. So Vanessa pulled out her good old notes app, admitted that her initial comment was wrong, and really apologized. She wrote:
