Tracee Ellis Ross posts best '90s throwback photo with her mother, Diana Ross

Thursday was a big day: Diana Ross turned 76, and her daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, posted a special Instagram to celebrate. My favorite '90s Gap ad featuring mother and daughter together. Absorbing Beauty!

Elise Ross also shared a collection of iconic moments from her mother's career. Celebrities also congratulated Ms. Ross in the comments. Janelle MonĂ¡e wrote, "Love LADY D," Reese Witherspoon wrote, "Gorgeous example of talent and grace!" and Normani wrote a series of heart eye emojis.

Meanwhile, Ross himself celebrated his birthday by sending love to his fans. She wrote on Instagram, "I wish and ask that the SOURCE, or highest power, send many blessings of love, compassion, health, happiness, clarity, abundance, joy, forgiveness, gratitude, and my human family on this planet." 'Sending my love and light to all.'

Confession: I love Tracee Ellis Ross so much that not a small part of my brain genuinely believes we are best friends. So I have absorbed every anecdote about her mother as if she had personally shared them with me at a hilarious brunch in Los Angeles. One of my favorites is the carpet story she told W Magazine (opens in new tab), not me, in 2017.

"When I went to college, I had this beautiful kilim rug, the rug I wanted under my breakfast table. I asked my mother if I could take it with me to college, and she said, 'No, under the breakfast table. She said, 'No, it's under the breakfast table. ' There was a car in the driveway, and my mother came out. I don't know how she got it under the table, but she came out barefoot with the rug. My mother said, 'Take it! Take the rug! I love you! Take the rug and go to college with it!' '"

.

"It's a perfect representation of my mother. She's not the Diana Ross that everyone knows. That's my mom."
