Sussex couple appoints top Melinda Gates staff to run charity

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are actively planning for life after the throne.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made extensive hires for their ongoing charity venture. According to reports, Duchess Meghan and Harry have hired Catherine Saint-Laurent, a top staff member of Melinda Gates' Pivotal Ventures organization, to oversee and manage their upcoming charitable foundation.

In an email obtained by BAZAAR.com, Saint-Laurent announced her departure from Pivotal Ventures and that she will join Prince Harry and Meghan's team to spearhead their philanthropic efforts (opens in new tab).

"Starting next week, I will serve as Chief of Staff and Executive Director of a new nonprofit for Meghan and Harry," St. Laurent reportedly wrote in an email." They are embarking on a new chapter on their own, and I am excited to play a supportive role that will enable them to realize their vision and achieve impact on the issues that matter most to them."

News of the Sussexes' top hire follows confirmation that the royal couple has officially relocated to Meghan's home state of California, People (opens in new tab), as the coronavirus crisis (opens in new tab) continues, reported that the two are now staying in a secluded compound in Los Angeles with their young son Archie, where they are safe and sound. The move precedes the couple's official transition from royal life, which begins on March 31.
