Fun fact about my Type A: I keep an Excel spreadsheet on my laptop, listing all the items in my closet and a list of items I plan to invest in someday. (The outerwear section of the Excel sheet has a subsection called "camel/tan coats," and double-breasted wool coats and trench coats (specifically, Burberry's Heritage Kensington trench coat (opens in a new tab)) are the styles that I admire. mentioned. The camel coat effortlessly elevates any style (opens in new tab).

The Burberry trench tops my wish list as my go-to coat for rainy days, but I also need an all-around camel coat that I can wear in each of New York's four fickle seasons. For years, I searched for the perfect piece. I wanted the cut to be slightly oversized (to give a little more room for layering), the color to be a soft tan without being too yellow, and the coat to be versatile enough to be dressed up or down, perfect for any occasion.

Four years ago, thanks to Nordstrom's (opens in new tab) annual anniversary sale, I snagged this perfect double-breasted wool coat from Diane von Furstenberg. (From the cut to the color to the wooden buttons and peaked lapels, I knew at first glance that everything about this coat was perfect. Even though it was a sale price, this coat was a bit of a splurge, but in hindsight, I can assure you that it was worth the investment.

This DVF coat can be worn to the office, to dinner with friends, and over a hoodie and track pants for an effortless street-style grocery store ensemble. It makes you feel effortlessly chic and put together. Aside from a cozy hoodie, it's the only coat that will keep you warm through the winter and easily transition into spring and fall. Unfortunately, the DVF coat I'm wearing right now is sold out, but you can find a similar coat for everyone. Everyone needs a classic camel coat in their wardrobe.
