Megan Seastallion on the influence of her mother on her career.

Megan Seastallion graces the cover of Marie Claire's May issue (opens in new tab). Meg shares how she got her "hot girl" wings from the women who shaped her, including her mother Holly Thomas (opens in new tab), who died of brain cancer in March 2019.

Thomas was a bill collector who used to rap under the name Holly Wood. While watching her mother pursue a career in music, Meg grew up alongside Thomas listening to hip-hop legends from Slim Sugg to Biggie Smalls." I would write after work and before work and see her fit," Meg told Marie Claire. "I'm used to seeing that work ethic."

Meg continues to embrace that same work ethic today. Selim Buab, A&R executive for 300 Entertainment, told MC: "She was a very good person. "The day after the funeral, she went on a radio show, and she hasn't stopped working since."

Meg's work ethic is still the same today.

Meg's touching confidence can also be credited to her mother. The rapper recalls a time when her mother encouraged her daughter to stand up for herself against an elementary school bully. 'The next day, I went to school and cursed the bitch out,' Meg recalls. 'She definitely left me alone after that.'

That's our girl!
