Queen Elizabeth dressmaker is making scrubs to help health care workers amid coronavirus crisis

In peacetime, Stewart Purvin is busy making pastel coats and dresses (opens in new tab) for Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen's dressmaker revealed on Twitter that she is busy making scrubs and is already about to deliver the first set to the NHS Foundation Trust. Along with a photo of the navy blue garments, Parvin added a message, urging others to join the effort.

"There are several groups coordinating this effort if you would like to participate as a home sewer or as a business with work space," he wrote, adding in a second tweet, "As ever, risk your own health for the care and protection of us all. My sincere thanks to all those who continue to work tirelessly for the care and protection of all of us, risking their own health as they have done in the past," he added.

The British monarch is currently sequestered at Windsor Castle (open in new tab) for the time being, and major royal events (from the Trooping the Colour parade (open in new tab) to Royal Ascot (open in new tab) and the Queen's Garden Party) have been canceled, postponed, or suspended due to pandemics. Palvin seems to have had less and less time to make custom-made costumes for the Queen these days, as many major royal events (from Trooping the Colour (opens new tab) to the Queen's Garden Party) have been cancelled, postponed, or reworked due to the pandemic.

The Queen must also be supporting his efforts. As stated in a letter to "Holy Thursday" gift recipients (opens in new tab) released yesterday by Buckingham Palace, the Queen is a staunch supporter of helping others. The Queen writes, "It is a call to service to others that is central to my life."
