Eccentric Molecules 05 Perfume comforted my loneliness.
Welcome to Worth It! Every other week, I'll introduce you to a new product that I've tested and loved: the kind of love I'm talking about, the kind that drains you to the bottom and tells your friends, "I found The-One." If it's featured here, consider it permission to splurge. Read on to learn more about the products you don't want to part with. And for the latest Worth It breakdown, click here (opens in a new tab).
Eccentric Molecules (opens in new tab) is known for its chemistry-influenced, one note to shift your senses, your skin, but better styled fragrances. Its latest creation, Molecule 05, is no exception: only cashemeran, a molecule created by the International Fragrance Foundation in the late 1970s, is used in this perfume. Kashmelan, a molecule created by the International Fragrance Foundation in the late 1970s, is the only molecule used in the perfume. When worn alone, its musky, dry-wood scent envelops the wearer in warmth. It is precisely the androgynous and mysterious scent I have always been drawn to: Molecule 05 became the scent I associate with the trying months of the COVID-19 pandemic (open in new tab), and my ability to survive it.
If there was one thing I sought while practicing social distancing, it was comfort. I am not talking about waist elastic or cacho e pepe. For me, it's about maintaining a beauty routine that may seem mundane and unnecessary. My clothes lean toward "isolation casual" and my makeup is completely dependent on my stress level. Rather than compromise on a regular-use fragrance woven with memories of more dynamic chapters, I opted for something cozy and subtle, reminiscent of time spent indoors. A perfume with only one note seemed the perfect vehicle.
The first whiff of the fragrance smells like fresh laundry. Once it settles in, a warmth comes through, like my own skin, but woody and sweet. I am tempted to dive into myself. It's as if my senses are covered with a weighty blanket. I realize I made the right choice. The shadows of nostalgic and persuasive perfumes do not hide my current state of constant self reflection.
I have yet to decide if I will continue to wear Molecule 05 when we all emerge from our isolation. But for now it is adding sweetness to my stagnant days.
