Prince Harry sends heartfelt email to family who lost daughter during lockdown

Prince Harry and Princess Meghan (open in new tab) have reached out to a family following the death of their daughter.

Hayley Smallman told the Daily Mail (opens in new tab) that the Duke of Sussex (opens in new tab) sent her daughter Holly Smallman an email after her death. The family met the prince at the 2015 Wellchild Awards, where an award was presented to Haley's other child, Ruby Smallman.

Haley revealed to the publication, "When I opened the email from him, it was so personal. He literally remembered every detail of our meeting at the awards ceremony in London five years ago, and there was genuine compassion in what he wrote."

She continued, " It meant the world to us to know that Prince Harry found the time to send this email, that Holly had such an impact on him, and that he cared so much in the midst of this personal turmoil."

Haley shared a copy of the email with the publisher, and the prince signed it, "Meghan and I offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences."

According to the Daily Mail, 18-year-old Holly "died peacefully in her sleep, having been seriously ill since birth with many complex illnesses, including cerebral palsy, epilepsy and chronic lung disease."
