Prince Harry's First Project Since Succession to the Throne Focuses on Mental Well-Being in the Military

Prince Harry has long been a public advocate for the importance of mental health. So the latest project announced by Prince Harry, his first since stepping down as senior royalty, is not too surprising: on Monday, April 27, he launched HeadFIT (opens in new tab). This online platform gives military personnel 24/7 access to self-help tools to manage their health.

According to a press release from the UK Ministry of Defense (opens in new tab), the platform was designed with military personnel in mind, but anyone can access the online tools. Harry said in a statement (opens in new tab), "I have long believed that the military community should lead the rest of society. For too long we have waited for problems to happen and then dealt with them...HeadFIT is a proactive approach to mental fitness that focuses on our own potential to improve performance using methods proven in sports science"

.

"This is about optimizing the self. It's about being our best selves. It's about gaining an advantage, whether it's facing an opponent or overcoming a difficult situation." Being HeadFIT is about performing at your best.

HeadFIT has been in development since October 2017, before Harry and Meghan Markle's royal departure. Led by Harry, it was developed by the Royal Foundation's Heads Together Campaign, King's College London, and the MoD with advice from psychologist Dr. Vanessa Moulton.

Prince William and Prince Harry established the Royal Foundation in 2009, as reported by The Guardian (opens in new tab), with Kate Middleton joining in 2011 and Meghan Markle in 2018. Meghan and Harry left the foundation in June 2019 to start their own charities, but Harry's HeadFIT work apparently continues.

"Anyone who has worked [with HeadFIT] to create what we have today should be incredibly proud and excited about the impact it will have," Harry said.
