Normal People" Season 2: Everything We Know
Call it hype or call it brilliance, Sally Rooney's reign is far from over. After the adaptation of the author's award-winning, best-selling novel Normal People (opens in new tab) launched on Hulu on April 29, fans are already clamoring for a 12-part sequel.
The showrunner has yet to commit to delivering a second season, but there is always a glimmer of hope, if Rooney's faithful defenders have anything to say about it. Here is everything we know so far about "Normal People" Season 2. (Warning: (Warning: Naturally, there are some spoilers ahead regarding the book and the show.)
After watching the young lovers from Sligo weave in and out of each other's lives throughout high school and college, we still don't know their fate when the series breaks off. At the end of the show, Marianne is packing up her room and Connell is planning to head to New York City. Will they come to the end of the show, will the steamy scenes between the two still continue, as they are both still young and obviously still dealing with trauma that they have not yet dealt with? If a second season is made, there are decades worth of stories the series could pursue.
Rooney's first novel, Conversations With Friends, is being adapted by the BBC, and it is clear that Rooney is still excited about working with the studio. She was also heavily involved in the adaptation of "Normal People," and has written nearly half of the series herself. Perhaps even a second film?
In an interview with NME, Mescall said, "Series one is a book. But you never know what's on the other side. The great thing about these two characters is that their lives go on."
"I raised my hand and said I would play Connell until the cows come home," Mescal told Radio Times. Edgar Jones replied, "Same thing!" I replied.
Lenny Abrahamson, one of the two directors of the series, told Radio Times that he wanted to work on a second season that would explore the consequences of Connell and Marianne's relationship ten years later.
"I have this fantasy of trying to paint a picture of what the two of them will be like 10 years from now, 10 years from now.
No release date has been set for Season 2 at this time, but if the series is as successful as the original, there will be plenty of room in our hearts for more Rooney appearances.
