Kate Middleton, Prince George's "heart set" was originally another name.

Kate Middleton (opens in new tab) has never tried to hide her personal struggles with parenting, and now one of her earliest parenting dilemmas has come to light. It all had to do with deciding on the name of her first child, Prince George (opens in new tab), before his birth in 2013.

Kate and her husband Prince William (opens in new tab) eventually settled on the name George Alexander Louis, but according to the Mirror (opens in new tab), Kate originally "had her heart set on" a different first name.

"Courtiers claimed they did not know the sex of the baby they were having, and friends close to the couple claimed William wanted a surprise," royal expert Katie Nicol (opens in new tab) told the Mirror about that period in the Cambridges' lives. She told the story." They had not yet decided on a name for their first son, although Kate apparently suspected it was a boy and had her heart set on the name Alexander."

The couple chose to keep George's gender a surprise, but one friend said Kate suspected it was a boy "because the baby kicks so well."

Eventually, Will and Kate decided on George (opens in new tab) as the first name (opens in new tab) in honor of the Queen's father, King George VI, and the Duchess's favorite boy name was used as the middle name.
