Watch Tom Hardy's dramatic transformation as Al Capone in the new movie

Here's an image to surprise you Tuesday morning: the biopic Capone (surprising title!) ), a new photo of Tom Hardy as Al Capone has been released ahead of the film's May 12 release! As captured by photographer Greg Williams (opens in new tab), Hardy's Capone has extensive facial scarring, dramatically bloodshot eyes, and a receding hairline, the work of makeup artist Audrey Doyle. See below:

"Capone," directed by Josh Trank, will be available for home rental beginning May 12 after theaters were closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, Variety reports (and will be released theatrically once theaters reopen). The film, a novel take on the mob boss, will focus primarily on Capone's later years at his Palm Island, Florida mansion, when he suffered from dementia after his release from prison, rather than as a Chicago Mafia boss. Hardy rarely speaks in the trailer and rarely appears without a large cigar between his lips.

The film's official synopsis, according to Variety: "47-year-old Al Capone begins to suffer from dementia and is haunted by his violent past after a decade in prison." Now, on May 12, we look forward to about two hours of relief from the relentless and tedious!
