Gwyneth Paltrow Loses 'Most Controversial Celebrity Baby Name' to Elon Musk and Grimes

Today, we have come to expect only the weird and wacky when it comes to celebrity baby names (opens in new tab), but back in 2004 that was not yet the case. That's why Gwyneth Paltrow (opens in new tab) and Chris Martin (opens in new tab) named their daughter Apple (opens in new tab) that year, which became a worldwide sensation (and often a punchline).

Even as other celebrities seemed to vie for the "most buzz-worthy baby name" award, Apple Martin (opens in new tab) continued to reign supreme. No celebrity baby name seemed to get people talking and debating as much as Gwyneth's firstborn.

Until now. This week, Elon Musk (opens in new tab) and Grimes took the Internet by storm when they announced that they had named their son X → A-12. The name was so outlandish that Musk had to explain how to pronounce it in public.

"First of all, it was my partner Grimes who came up with the name. In an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he explained. 'So it's just the letter X, and Æ is pronounced Ash.'

On Friday, InStyle magazine (opens in new tab) posted about Mask and Grimes' baby name on Instagram, and Gwyneth won the comments section, writing, "#chrismartin I think we got beat for most controversial baby name." she wrote.

There are not enough clapping emojis to describe the perfection of this comment. Well done, Gwyneth (opens in new tab).
