The Last Dance" was not filmed at Michael Jordan's parents' home.
When your eyes aren't drawn to the images of Michael Jordan on the iPad handed to him by the "Last Dance" crew, you're probably paying attention to what's behind him - the large window with a view of the ocean, the seemingly empty room (depending on the shot), and the kitchen behind him to the left of him. Many will.
But while it may seem obvious that the crew would film interviews with MJ in his comfortable home, The Last Dance was not actually shot at Jordan's actual home in Jupiter, Florida. He did not allow it to be. Instead, the crew found and filmed at three different houses near his home.
"He said his home was a sanctuary," Jason Hehir, director of "Last Dance," explains of Jordan's Jupiter home.
"When I asked to fly on his private plane to film him going to a Nike meeting, he didn't want people on the plane. There are parts of his life he wants to keep private."If you've seen the previous eight episodes of the ESPN documentary series (10 episodes in all), Jordan's request for privacy will come as no shock. He has dealt with an overwhelming amount of public attention over the years, given that he is, well, the most famous basketball player that has ever existed. (That attention has inevitably been accompanied by criticism and false rumors that his gambling had something to do with the 1993 murder of his father (opens in new tab), James Jordan.
As for the interviews with Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, Pippen filmed in an empty house (his family had just moved in) and Hehir filmed Rodman in a hotel suite in West Hollywood, California.
