Read MoreQueen Elizabeth (opens in new tab) has a long reputation for putting duty and country above all else (if you don't know, take a serious look at "The Crown" (opens in new tab)). As monarch, she is expected to entertain world leaders whom the British government invites to visit the country.
Over the years, the British government has invited less-than-ideal guests that the Queen was expected to entertain (open with a new tab), including Vladimir Putin, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, and Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe.
But according to a new ITV documentary, "Our Queen: Inside the Crown," which aired in the United Kingdom on Thursday, there was one visitor so detestable that even the queen couldn't help but divulge (opens in new tab) an un-royal moment: in 1978 In 1978, the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu visited London for four days with his wife Elena.
"The press started asking questions of the Foreign Minister," Robert Hardman explained in a new documentary. Apparently, people were outraged by the visit, and the media asked, "Why are you inviting this monster to Britain?" They even asked the question.
Despite the fact that the Queen and her husband Prince Philip (opens in new tab) performed their royal duties for the visit and even greeted Theoscheskus when he arrived at Victoria Station in London, the Queen apparently could not stomach the idea of talking to the Romanian dictator. She resorted to even the most un-royal moments to avoid unnecessary chats with him at Buckingham Palace.
"When they were staying, she took the corgis for a walk in the palace gardens. She felt "very unable to talk to them," and for the first and only time in her life, she hid in the bushes of the palace gardens to escape her guests."
[12It is not certain whether Chausescu or his wife caught the queen's blatant petty fudging, but it is officially on my list of the most odious things she ever did.
