Global Beauty Trends

Beauty has no geographical limits. Trends are timeless and beauty knows no borders. What skincare products, wellness trends, hairstyles, makeup looks, and muse are Marie Claire's beauty editors obsessed with around the world?

I selected six beauty editors from MC's international editions to share what beauty looks like where they live. Editors from the UK, Hungary, Taiwan, Brazil, Turkey, and the US shared with us the latest & greatest beauty happenings in their cities. The biggest beauty trends in the world and the best products from abroad.

"Self-care as a whole is mobilizing many Brazilians and we see the influence of practices from our indigenous and black roots. Herbal baths, tea treatments, and even healers are regaining popularity.

"Ten years ago, it was very rare to see black women in mainstream media. Brazilian actress Thais Araujo came into the spotlight and inspired me to stop straightening my hair and wear my curls freely. I was also inspired by women like Solange Knowles and Tracee Ellis Ross."

"Every year in Brazil, there is a carnival. People wear very little clothing and lots of glittering makeup and take to the streets to dance, drink, and enjoy themselves to the rhythm of the music.

"The main focus of Brazilian influencers and media is skin, and people are looking for the best all-natural products; there is a natural brand called Mona, which was used a lot during the last fashion week."

"Women here like to wear striking eye makeup and even use liquid lipstick on their eyelids. Natural and vegan makeup is also on the rise. We live in a country of biodiversity, so it's great to see our ingredients showing up in our products."

"Culturally in Brazil, long hair is more popular and seen as more beautiful. However, I prefer short hair. This is important to me and I have noticed that other black women in my country are inspired to do the same. Leading beauty brands are developing products for textured hair that are specifically formulated for women transitioning to natural texture."

"Personally, I love messy buns and extreme ponytails. I am happy to see that the pixie cut is making a comeback in Hungary as well." [Hungarian women don't wear very provocative makeup, because for us the most important thing is practicality. We use nudes and earth colors, plus bronzer and highlights. We believe that less is more, but we like to emphasize our lips with strong reds, burgundies, or shocking pinks. If I want to focus on the eyes, I'll use Shiseido's Aura Dew gold highlighter (opens in new tab) ($25)."

"We're big on historic spas and ancient baths that incorporate hot springs and saunas. Herbal oil massages, face rollers, and scrape stones are also becoming popular."

"As for work, I really enjoy styling beauty on shoots. One of my biggest inspirations is still life painter Marissa Gimeno (opens in new tab). She plays with textures, colors, and shapes like no one else."

[22 [Hungarians are very social. They like to go to coffee shops, pastry shops, wine bars, and local restaurants, where they eat delicious food and drink good wine and palinka, a Hungarian specialty. I also enjoy swimming and sailing in Lake Balaton, hiking in the Martras Mountains, and rowing on the Tisza River."

"I practice yoga every day because it balances me physically and mentally. My mother is an Iyengar yoga instructor, so she is always there for me. When I can't go to the studio, I practice at home."

"In America, anything goes when it comes to beauty. It may be nuanced, but in 2020, it's totally true. The "rules" of decades past have been erased. Whether it's a full face or no makeup at a craft store jewelry store, we rock those looks without a second thought."

"I've recently gotten into Frederic Malle's Music for a Weil (opens in a new tab) ($225). The lavender on the nose at first makes it herbal and androgynous, and the mellow touches of vanilla and pineapple make it intoxicatingly sexy as it creeps up on you. Strangers stop me on the street and Uber drivers turn down the music and ask what I'm wearing."

"I rarely meet a skincare brand devotee anymore. Everyone I know, including beauty experts, has a high-low routine that includes both luxury products and drugstore finds."

"New cross-training classes are being created daily. Hybrid workouts like Switch Playground (open in new tab) use intervals and creative stations to reliably get your heart rate up and work multiple muscle groups at once.

"The dewy simplicity of the skin and the unexpected pop of neon color in the eyes is a whimsy I've fully embraced from work to play. When I want to feel sexy for a date or power-drunk before an important meeting, I draw a thick feline flick with black Dior Show Onstage Liquid Liner (open in new tab) ($31). It's thick as black ink and doesn't really smudge." This is my liquid liner must-have.

"The design I named 'Dirty French' is a more edgy take on the typical French mani. By combining nude nails with metallic edges and strategic cascades of glitter, I make the classic design cool again."

"The no-makeup look with a deep matte red lip is all the rage in the UK. I like to go for a no makeup look, and when I want to be noticed, I like to apply a single coat of Nars Powder Matte Lip Pigment in Light My Fire (open in new tab) ($26). I also like to fill in my brows with a micro pencil to give them a blonde brow look."

"I am very interested in inner health and skin glow and think it is best to invest in better, less expensive products. As a mom, I don't have time to go through a tedious multi-step routine. My must-haves are Sisley Sisleÿa moisturizer (open in new tab) ($152) and SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum (open in new tab) ($166), which I use morning and night. 12]

"With Sienna Miller's mature, boho style, Gwyneth Paltrow's effortless, no-makeup, fresh-faced beauty that I crave."

"I try not to wear too much fragrance. Sometimes I wear a light veil of Louis Vuitton's Sun Song (opens in new tab) ($265). I'm also crazy about Cult of Treehouse Tree Healer Restorative Perfume Oil (opens in new tab) ($90), which I wear when I want balance."

"I'm a big fan of a slow soak in hot water, I love 'The Martini' Emotional Detox Bath Soak ($35) from Goop (open in new tab) or Voya Lazy Days: Detox Seaweed Bath (open in new tab) ($32). I value my morning rituals, and tongue brushes are a staple of my morning routine for antibacterial purposes."

"Turkish baths (we call them hammams) have many skin care benefits. Ten to fifteen minutes in a hot, moist environment will make the skin soft enough to exfoliate."

"Women make it a routine to take a Turkish bath.

"Women here like to feel confident, sexy and beautiful. They are crazy about heavy eye makeup, vivid lip colors, and bold nails. I pull on colorful eyeliner every day, especially in the summer."

"Kickboxing is a lot of fun. I notice a difference in my performance every time and I always leave stronger than when I came. It has also strengthened my shoulder muscles."

"Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (opens in new tab) ($105) has always been my favorite; it became my signature scent almost 10 years ago, and people still ask what I'm wearing when I wear it. They ask, "What are you wearing?

"I love French manicures reimagined, like double tips and ombré manicures. The long nail trend seems to be continuing, but I'm sick of it.

"I love supermodel Maugosia Bella's simple, masculine, yet elegant style. She is effortless and natural. The same goes for Rebecca Lee Longendijk (opens in new tab). Her signature look, completely natural, is my ultimate beauty muse."

"Taiwan is humid and many people have combination skin, which is not easy to care for in this climate. Everyone is busy at work, so young people are serious about anti-aging skin care products and eye contouring. As long as the products are effective, money doesn't matter much; skin care is the priority."

"Taiwanese girls love dreamy, unicorn-like colors, especially pastel and rainbow colors. Technological advances have allowed them to experiment with bold new colors, the obsession with long hair has finally changed, and women are more open to short styles."

"The new trend of short hair is a great example of the new trend of short styles,"

"The new trend of long hair is a great example of the new trend of short hair.

"They are into cutting-edge skin care technology like plasma fibroblast therapy. This uses an electric pen-like device to target the fibroblasts, the collagen and protein-producing cells in the dermis. This increases collagen, tightens the skin, and improves texture"

.

"We are inspired by Korean beauty and Korean dramas, which feature lots of bold lips. When Taiwanese women get hooked on a collection, they buy the whole line. When Taiwanese women get hooked on a certain collection, they buy the whole line. Rosy and red are the most popular, paired with foundation and curled lashes."
