YouTuber reveals that he "rehomed" an adopted child with autism.
YouTube star Micah Stauffer shared heartbreaking news with fans this week: she and her husband "rehomed" their adopted child. Stauffer opened up about the experience in a new video titled "Our Family Update." In it, Stauffer and her husband, James, said they chose to "rehome" their son Huxley, whom they adopted from China two years ago. The Stauffers' adoption journey and subsequent challenges with Huxley were a big part of Micah's channel and her monetized social posts about parenting because.
Huxley is autistic, and Micah says she and James had no idea what it was really like to care for him. James said in the video, "Once Huxley came home, there were a lot of special needs that we weren't aware of and weren't told about."
"For us, it was really hard to hear so many opinions and upsetting things from the medical community. We didn't want to be in this position. And we have tried to meet his needs and help him as much as we can.... We really love him."
Micah doubled down on James' comments. 'There isn't a person anywhere in our body who doesn't love Huxley with every fiber of their being,' she said tearfully.
"I think what Jim is trying to say is that after so many assessments, so many evaluations, so many medical professionals feel that he needs a different fit, that he needs more for his medical needs.
Micah made it clear that this was not easy for her family. 'Do you ever feel like you've failed as a mother? However, Micah added that Huxley is now living in her "forever home" with her new family.
"The last couple of months have been the hardest thing I could have imagined. He's growing up, happy, doing really well, and his new mom is a great fit with her training as a medical professional." Micah and James have four other children, and on Wednesday Micah updated his Twitter biography to state that he only has four children.
The response was strong.
Micah has yet to address the criticism, but she and James said in a video that they would not speak publicly about the situation any longer.
