Prince William had to stop Prince George from cheering at his first professional soccer game.

Prince George was a little too excited to take the stands at his first professional soccer game, his father (opens in new tab) says in a new documentary.

Last October, Prince William and Kate Middleton took their two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte (opens in new tab), to see Will's favorite team, Aston Villa, play an away game against Norwich City. The only problem was that the Cambridges were seated in seats reserved for home fans, so they couldn't watch the game as they would have liked. On Twitter at the time, royal watchers even speculated that Will was trying to quiet George's cheering a little too loudly.

Will more or less admitted this in the documentary Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health (opens in new tab), released this week on the BBC. Reflecting on the experience, he said, "It was a weekend of soccer. 'I was sitting with the home fans. George celebrated on my behalf."

For a prince who grew up in London, Birmingham-based Aston Villa was hardly a natural choice; in 2015, according to Hello (opens in new tab), the royal explained how he became interested in the team. 'I used to be really into soccer at school. I was looking for a club. All my friends at school were Man U fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn't want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams. I wanted something more middle of the pack, something that would give me a roller coaster ride of excitement."

It seems to be a fandom Will is passing on to the next royal generation.
