Ava DuVernay is developing a Netflix series about the life of Colin Kapanik.

Colin Capernick may not yet have received a direct apology from the NFL, but he continues to garner national attention after taking a knee during the national anthem in 2016 to protest racial injustice, police brutality, and systematic oppression. Now, his story is finally being told to millions of people through the Netflix series "Colin in Black & White," produced by Ava DuVernay and written by Michael Starbury.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), the six-episode scripted limited drama will focus on Capanic's adolescent life growing up in a white adoptive home. The former San Francisco 49ers football player, now a free agent, will narrate the series, and another actor will play a younger version of the quarterback. With the recent "Black Lives Matter" protests, there could not be a better time to show Americans the man behind the headlines and, of course, the president's tweets (opens in new tab).

"Colin Capernick, with his protests, ignited a national conversation about race and justice, with far-reaching consequences for football, culture, and him personally," DuVernay said per THR (opens in new tab).

"Colin's story has so much to say about identity, sports, and the enduring spirit of protest and recovery, and I couldn't be happier to tell this story with the team at Netflix."

Here's everything we know about Colin from Black and White so far.

Netflix has yet to reveal an exact date, but the series has been in production since 2019 and the script was reportedly completed in May.

It is unknown at this time, but we will try to update this article as soon as we know.

"Too often we see race and black narratives portrayed through a white lens," says Capanic, according to THR (opens in new tab). 'We're trying to give a new perspective on the different realities that black people face.' We explore the racial struggles I faced as a black adoptee in a white community during high school. I am honored to collaborate with Eva to bring these stories to the world."

This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
