Drunk Elephant founder Tiffany Masterson, wearing the same scent since the eighth grade.
Welcome to Beauty Around the Clock, Marie Claire's weekly peek into the daily lives of the most influential women in their industries. How do these women manage to get through the day's work?
The founder of Drunk Elephant made headlines last year when she sold her company to Shiseido for $845 million. She still works from her home in Houston to promote clean beauty products. Here is a 24-hour look at her world.
I get up at 6 am. The first thing I do is kiss my husband or take a sip of the coffee he places next to my head; if my four children don't have to go to school, I get up at 7 or close to 8.
I work from home, so unless I have a meeting, I don't spend a lot of time on beauty. I usually wear my hair in a bun and don't do any skin cleansing. I apply Drunk Elephant's Marula Oil (open in new tab) or F Balm (open in new tab) to my face, as I believe the acid mantle is the best protection for the skin. Then I reply to emails. I also drink celery juice for my digestion and immune system.
Cachava Superfood Smoothie (open in new tab). A blend of ground flaxseed, nut milk, a handful of spinach or kale, and avocado.
When meeting people, I go light on the eye makeup and nude on the lips. I'm a little stuck in the 50s and 60s. I like to wear my hair in a ponytail because it makes me look clean and pretty. Chris McMillan (Jennifer Aniston's hairstylist) and I have known each other since childhood. He started cutting my hair when I was in seventh grade and has worked on hair products for Drunk Elephant (opens in new tab). He always gives me a great haircut and I may not have to go back for another 9 months. I've been wearing Must de Cartier (opens in new tab) since the eighth grade and I still spray it on my clothes.
I've always felt that being in the middle of the action is the best way to stay balanced. I've never separated my home from my office and love the idea of doing laundry during conference calls.
I have an infrared sauna at home. It's a great stress reliever and a great way to get rid of toxins. If I have time, after a walk in the park or a ride on the elliptical in the garage, I spend 20-30 minutes in the sauna with a Nuun (open in new tab) tablet and a large glass of water with increased electrolytes. Almost every day, I keep my body moving by doing bite-sized exercises.
I know what I am good at and wear that hat all the time.
I'm a great cook, and that translates into my product formulations.
Hard coconut oil. I like to keep it close to me and use it on my hair ends and cuticles. I also use it for cooking.
Brush teeth, treat invisalign, cleanse, mix Drunk Elephant's TLC Serum (opens in new tab), Marula Oil (opens in new tab), and F Balm in palm and slather on. It's mushroom platinum AHCC (opens in new tab) for immunity, vitamin D3, and active enzymes for digestion. I also take a swig of Inner Eco's probiotic drink. Then I put on my PJs, drink lemon or ginger tea in hot water, and look at my Instagram account. I also love, love, love the Forsigmatic Mushroom Cacao Mix (opens in new tab) made with Reishi and cinnamon. It tastes like hot chocolate.
I kiss my husband.
I'm usually in bed between 10 and 11, but can't turn off the lamp unless everyone is home.
