Two black trans women, Dominique Fells and Rhea Milton, were murdered within 24 hours.

As "Black Lives Matter" (open in new tab) protests continue across the country this week, the black transgender community was once again targeted for violence, with two black transgender women killed in separate attacks within 24 hours (open in new tab).

On Monday night, the body of Dominique Remy Fells (open in new tab) was found along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia's Bartam's Garden neighborhood. And on Tuesday, Liah Milton was shot several times during an attempted robbery in Liberty Township, Ohio (open in new tab).

Compounding the devastation of the trans community (open in new tab) is the fact that the two women have been repeatedly misgendered and deadpanned. Fells was mislabeled in early police and media reports as it took authorities several days to identify the bodies. TransOhio reported in a Facebook post on Thursday (opens in new tab) that Milton "has been consistently misgendered and misnamed dead by the media. [Especially as transgender Americans continue to be victims of disproportionate levels of violence, LGBTQ communities and allies across the country are mourning Fells and Milton, as noted by Out magazine (opens in new tab), Most of the deaths in the transgender community are trans women of color, and most of them are killed by guns. [Chase Glenn, executive director of the South Carolina LGBTQ organization Alliance For Full Acceptance, in a statement to NBC (opens in new tab) last year, said, "We are in an absolute state of emergency for black transgender women. We are in a state of absolute emergency for black transgender women."

Online, many people have taken to Twitter to demand justice and express support for the transgender community in the wake of the murder.

Those looking for ways to give back to the black trans community at this time can donate to a verified GoFundMe page (opens in new tab) that was set up to cover Fell's funeral expenses.

In a statement, Fell's parents said:
