I tried Dav Cameron's skin care secret, vitamin E oil.
The power of celebrities is amazing. As a beauty lover (opens in new tab), I am very easily influenced by the secrets, tips and products used by beautiful celebrities. I shave my head because Natalie Portman did. I used the skincare Jeanne Damas uses in her French pharmacy for a month; the way I contoured when I was 18 (opens in new tab) was a super close zoom in on Halsey's face. But here's the kicker: few of the products and routines I stole from these girls worked so well for me (opens in new tab) that they ended up taking up a permanent spot on my shelf.
Dove Cameron (opens in new tab) is the exception to the rule, an icon of my eyelashes and hair, who seems genuinely nice and sings like an angel. If she had an opening, I'd love to be friends with her (kidding...). When she appeared on Marie Claire's (opens in new tab)Masked and Answered (opens in new tab) and shared her skin care routine (opens in new tab) with us regular folks (see video above), I noticed something odd. She was using expensive serums and moisturizers that I knew by name. But then she pulled out something unexpected: vitamin E oil.
Naturally, this caught my attention. Just ask my patient boyfriend: the condition of my skin right before bed is best described as "sticky." I lather on serums, creams, and oils like nobody's business. The stickier the better. So when I saw this Whole Foods-style oil in Dove Cameron's bathroom, I was intrigued. And naturally, I bought some myself.
This is my only opportunity to give Dav Cameron my advice: throw out your current Vitamin E oil and use the one I bought. Quite by accident, I got the best skin care oil I have ever used. My criteria at the time of purchase was this: 100% pure vitamin E oil. Half of the oils I saw claimed to be vitamin E oil, but the fine print said they contained additional oils and vitamins. Sure, vitamin E is the main ingredient, but it's not the only one. I wanted something pure.
Let me explain why the oil I chose is the best. First, it is inexpensive. I shudder to think of the $30-$70 oils I have tried. Second, this vitamin E oil is thicker than other oils I have used. It is not the type of oil that you can just dab on your face and run. I found the easiest way to apply it was to put a few drops in the palm of my hand, rub both hands together and press it onto my face. Once it is associated with the moisturizer, it is easy to rub in.
Most importantly, this product works. It soaks into the skin better than any other oil I've tried. In fact, I find it to be the only oil that I can use during the day without worrying that I will look like a glowing disco ball all day long. It also doesn't make other skin care products tingle, which most other oils I've tried inevitably do. When I use it at night, it doesn't stick to my pillow, and when I wake up, my skin feels the most hydrated, smooth, and nourished it has ever felt.
Dav, get the memo. This is for you.
