Your childhood favorite black sitcom is now on Netflix!

It was "Moesha" that made me want to run to the nearest African braiding shop for box braids. From my obsession with boy bands (Boyz II Men) to the complexities of being a curious teenager. My friends and I sang the theme song to "Girlfriends" and dreamed of one day becoming successful black women like Toni, Joan, Lynn, and Maya. And "Parkers" taught me to enthusiastically go for anything, or in Nikki's case, anyone, and thanks to Netflix, I no longer have to squint at the blurry YouTube recordings of the black sitcoms that shaped our childhoods. Starting this August, the streaming service will have an HD version of the show.

In a tweet that sent Twitter into a tizzy on Wednesday morning, July 29, Netflix's Strong Black Leads announced that "Moesha," "The Game," "Sister, Sister," "Girlfriends," "The Parkers," "Half & Half," and "One on One" will soon be coming to the platform. The announcement featured familiar faces.

"Joan, Toni, Maya, Lynn," began the video, with Tracee Ellis Ross, who played Joan in Girlfriends. In the montage that follows, Essence Atkins of "Half and Half," Robert Richard of "One on One," Sher Jackson of "Moesha," and many other stars talk about the impact of these shows and their most memorable moments years later. Valarie Pettiford, best known for her role as "Big Dee Dee" Thorne in "Half and Half," says in the video, "I've never seen anything like it. The Twitter response to the announcement is proof of this.
