Prince William coldly rejected by Texas heiress Meghan Gunderman during college.

Dating is not always easy, even for royalty. Just ask Prince William (opens in new tab).

In her book "Kate: Queen of the Future" (opens in new tab), royal expert and biographer Katie Nicole (opens in new tab) describes Will's attempts (and failures) to woo a classmate from the University of St. Andrews (opens in new tab).

"Many girls went to extreme lengths to meet him and even tried to change their degree programs to attend his lectures in art history," Nicole writes.

But not all the girls at St. Andrews were after Will, and there was one girl he had his eye on: a Texas heiress named Megan Gunderman (opens in new tab). According to Nicole,

Nicole says that Will's classmates told her that Will was completely perplexed by the rejection and that Megan did not relent in her decision.

"She heard William asking her out on a date, but she wasn't interested at all and turned him down," said one friend from St. Andrews. He kept saying, "Why won't you go out with me?" I kept saying.

Of course, not falling in love with his own American, Megan, was all part of fate's plan, as Will was free to fall in love with his future wife and lifelong love, Kate Middleton (opens in new tab).

Megan, who became the founder and executive director of The Foundation For Tomorrow, also found true love when she married former NFL player Jason Sehorn in 2017. Here they are at a party in the Hamptons in 2016:
