Mariana Hewitt and Lauren Gores of Summer Fridays practice their 10-minute morning routine.

Welcome to Beauty Around the Clock, Marie Claire's weekly peek into the daily lives of the most influential women in their industries. How do these women get their day's work done?

In 2018, LA-based influencer-turned-entrepreneurs Lauren Gores (opens in new tab) and Marianna Hewitt (opens in new tab) have poured their love of skincare and wellness into their lives and turned it into Summer Friday's (opens in new tab ) - into a clean beauty brand with glowing skin and Instagram-worthy vibes. The brand, which started with a single ultra-hydrating Jet Lag mask, has grown into a complete product line that includes cleansers, serums, lip butters, and multiple masks. Here, the two beauty bosses talk about self-care rituals, motherhood, and finding balance.

Rise & Shine

Lauren Gores I usually wake up around 6:30 am to the sound of my toddler's footsteps running across the wooden floor. He jumps into bed with us and a few minutes later asks for a family cereal date. It's not as zen a start as it was before I became a mom, but my son is a great morning workout buddy. He plays with me while I do my morning mat workout, and he brings his toys next to me while I run on the treadmill. If it's a busy morning, I can stretch for 10 minutes and envision what I want to do that day.

Marianna Hewitt: On weekdays, when I wake up around 7 am, the first thing I do is check my phone. It's a terrible habit. I wish I could stop.

Morning Routine

LG: I get ready really quickly. Skin care and makeup take about 10 minutes. Hair usually takes about 5 minutes: a little bit of cosmetics and a blow dryer.

Skin care: In the morning, I cleanse with Summer Fridays Super Amino Gel Cleanser (open in new tab) and apply CC Me vitamin C serum (open in new tab). Then apply a thin layer of Jet Lag Mask (opens in new tab) as a moisturizer or mix with water cream in the morning. Finally, I remember to use sunscreen, even on days when I'm indoors. Oh, and lip butter balm (opens in new tab). It's like a cloud of vanilla on my lips.

Hair: After showering the night before, I let my hair dry overnight, apply a small amount of Ouai Hair Oil (opens in new tab) to the ends to smooth out frizzy hair and a small amount of Wave Spray or Texturizing Spray (opens in new tab) to give it body. After showering in the morning, apply Moroccan Oil curl cream (opens in new tab) to the ends and let dry a bit more before applying the above products; before using COVID, apply Playa dry shampoo (opens in new tab) and Oribe texturizing spray (opens in new tab ) and a weekly blow-dry that lasted for several days. I'm also obsessed with Briogio's charcoal and tea tree scalp treatment (opens in new tab). When I use this before blow drying, my hair lasts longer and my scalp is better all week long.

MH: About 10 minutes now. I've cut back on my morning routine since I've been home.

Skincare: Summer Fridays Super Amino Gel Cleanser (opens in new tab), CC Me Serum (opens in new tab), moisturizer, lip butter balm (opens in new tab). If you are going for a walk that day, add Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen (opens in new tab).

Hair: I dry my hair almost daily with a hair dryer, wash with OUAI Detox Shampoo (opens in new tab), Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair. mask (opens in new tab), and Leave-In Hair Conditioner and Oil.

Signature Beauty Look

LG: Clean skin with dewy blush and highlighter, minimal eye makeup but strong brows.

MH: Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation (open in new tab), NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (open in new tab), mascara, KKW Lipliner (open in new tab), Lip Butter Balm (open in new tab). And I love anything that smells sweet and summery, I use a mix of vanilla oil and Ellis Brooklyn salt (opens in new tab) that I found on amazon.

Power Start

LG: At home I drink hot lemon water followed by coffee, and my meals are usually toast with boiled eggs and tomatoes or a protein smoothie.

MH: My breakfast is always a Fab Four smoothie from Be Well By Kelly (opens in new tab), who has been my nutritionist for years. It has protein, healthy fats, fiber, and greens to keep me full until lunch. My favorite protein powder is Tone It Up vanilla (opens in new tab). And my drink of choice is water with lemon followed by iced coffee with vanilla stevia.

Fitness Routine

LG: I try to run 3 miles 3 days a week. The mini-workouts usually take about 20 minutes, which is great for busy weekdays; the Sweat app (open in new tab), Tone it Up (open in new tab), and Melissa Wood (open in new tab) for Pilates moves I can do at home.

MH: I like to work out first thing in the morning. The later in the day, the less motivated I am.I love Melissa Wood (opens in new tab)Health's Pilates app, The Sculpt Society (opens in new tab), and the Sweat app (opens in new tab). They are all workouts that can be easily done at home.

Self-Care Rituals

LG: Daily stretching is a game changer for me and I will do it anytime. I'll do it anytime. Sometimes it's best when I'm on the computer. I get up, move around, stretch, and focus on positive thoughts about how I want to spend my day. I try to work with toddlers because it inevitably tests my patience. When I feel overwhelmed, I take 10 minutes of alone time to stretch, pray, or take a walk outside.

MH: I meditate every morning. I also keep Saje Wellness Stress Release (open in new tab) oil on my desk, which is very calming.

Worthwhile

LG: I notice a difference when I continue to have regular facials. I hadn't had a facial in a long time (over a year), but when I resumed, my skin is generally brighter. [I use the Celluma LED light (opens in new tab) for 30 minutes a day with a large panel that helps set acne, wrinkles, and pain. It is expensive, but I love it.

A chic, cheapo favorite

LG: Ice face roller from Amazon.

MH: Dry brush. Lightly brush skin before showering.

Business Icons

LG: Oprah Winfrey

MH: Kim Kardashian, Jamie Kahn Lima, Jessica Alba, Oprah, Emma Greed

The highs and lows of entrepreneurship

LG: One of the best things that was the first time I saw our products on the shelves at Sephora. The hardest part was juggling being an imperfect mother and traveling a lot for work.

Backup carrier

LG: News anchor. I am grateful to have made this journey, but if I hadn't, I would have tried for a seat on the morning show.

MH: Branding agency.

Wind Down Routine

LG: I love the skin care self-care time. Sometimes I do Summer Friday masks or hair masks.

Skincare: Summer Fridays Super Amino Gel Cleanser (open in new tab), Summer Fridays Overtime Mask (open in new tab) for exfoliation and brightening, AHA oil or serum, and Jet Lag Mask (open in new tab) for a thick layer. Apply a thick layer of Jet Lag Mask (open in new tab) and leave on overnight.

Hair: After showering the night before, I apply a small amount of Olaplex Hair Perfector (opens in new tab), which helps with breakage and damaged hair, and Moroccan Oil Curl Cream (opens in new tab).

MH: I like a long evening routine, so I take 30-45 minutes. I dry brush, shower, put on a face mask, and lie in bed with an LED light.

Skincare: use Summer Fridays Super Amino Gel Cleanser, use a treatment product depending on how my skin feels that day, moisturize with Jet Lag Mask (opens in new tab), then celluma LED light ( opens in new tab).

Hair: I like to shower at night, so I use OUAI Detox Shampoo (opens in new tab), Briogio Don't Despair, Repair. mask (opens in new tab), hair oil, leave-in conditioner, and sleep with my hair damp.

Bedside essentials

LG: Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask (also used on hands), lavender sleep spray, Slip silk eye mask (opens in new tab), Moon Juice magnesium powder ( Mix with hot water before bed.

MH: Olly sleep vitamins (open in new tab), Slip silk eye mask (open in new tab), lavender sheet spray, Lip Butter Balm (open in new tab).

Lights out

LG: Optimal bedtime is 10:30 PM, but typical bedtime is 11:30 PM

MH: 11 PM - 12 AM
