So, we've rounded up a few of our favorites, including Adel Atelier (open in new tab), Captain Blankenship (open in new tab), Palmero Body (open in new tab), Edible Beauty Australia (open in new tab), True Moringa (open in new tab) From the founders of Meow Meow Tweet (opens in new tab) and Meow Meow Tweet (opens in new tab), the top runners in the natural beauty world tell us how they source ingredients from their kitchens to do just that. We've included a super easy hair mask recipe and tips below that we hope you'll try for your own hair.
"Natural honey contains many beneficial ingredients that enhance shine and hair growth," says Adele Chabbi, celebrity stylist and salon owner of Adele Atelier in New York (opens in new tab). So, while you can use the sweet treats that bees make for your hair, Chabbi recommends upping the ante by using onions. Yes, onions. According to Chavi, this vegetable helps "activate hair follicles and speed up the growth process." Here's how:
1. Place a container with 2-3 tablespoons of honey in a bowl of hot water and warm it.
2. grate one onion and mix it with the melted honey.
3. Apply to scalp, let sit for 1 hour, then rinse off shampoo in the shower.
Before the good old quarantine, many of us exposed our hair to many things. Says Chavi, "Hair is affected by many external factors, and from time to time we need to restore the hair structure." That means it's never too early or too late to reset your hair, as this coconut restorative mask does. 1. combine 1 tbsp. coconut oil and another tbsp. olive oil in a bowl.
2. add 3-4 drops of vitamin A and E oil to the same bowl and mix.
3. apply the mask to the length of your hair, avoiding the scalp, and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing.
"Pink clay and avocado are often used for the face, but they are equally effective for hair. This DIY mask can be used for both hair and skin. Pink clay works to purify and strengthen, avocado nourishes and moisturizes, and apple cider reduces excess sebum production. The result is a purification and treatment of excess oil, as well as revitalizing lackluster skin and dull hair."- Anna Mysios, founder of Edible Beauty Australia (opens in new tab)
1. 1 small ripe avocado, apple cider 1 tablespoon, 1 tablespoon oatmeal (pink clay if available), and 1 tablespoon agave in a bowl and mix well. If you want to stimulate circulation in your hair, you can add a few drops of rosemary essential oil to this mix.
2. Add more or less than 2 tablespoons of coconut yogurt to reach desired consistency.
3. Apply to wet, towel-dried hair. Work from scalp to ends.
4. Leave on for 20-30 minutes, then rinse as usual.
"This mask is ideal for all hair types and is especially effective on dry, damaged hair. The antioxidants in extra virgin olive oil promote a healthy scalp and new hair growth. Honey is a humectant and helps absorb moisture, and the beneficial proteins and vitamins in Greek yogurt help repair and strengthen hair." -Jessica Palermo, founder of Palermo Body (open in new tab)

"Light and easily absorbed, Moringa oil does not weigh down hair or make roots greasy. It not only moisturizes and conditions, but also tightens hair, promotes healthy hair growth, protects against breakage, and nourishes the scalp. Honey absorbs and locks moisture into hair, protecting roots and making hair strong and nourished. Avocado not only gives the mask a firm, smooth, creamy texture, but also moisturizes hair, soothes the scalp, and prevents dandruff."-Emily Cunningham, co-founder of True Moringa (opens in new tab)
