Marc Jacobs Launches Polysexual Collection

Adding to the conversation about gender and sexuality in 2020, Marc Jacobs has unveiled a new collection celebrating polysexuality. (For those unfamiliar with queer identities, a polysexual (open in new tab) is someone who is attracted to more than one gender or identity.) Titled "Heaven (open in new tab)," the collection explores teenage daydreams, alienation nation, queer youth, candy ravers, apocalypse sugar, and Toxic Shock Valley girls (to name a few), while also paying homage to new queer pioneer Greg Araki's films, Mike Kelley's plush sculptures, and artist Cindy Sherman. of the "queer" movement, and a tribute to Cindy Sherman of the "queer" movement. The items are not geared toward any particular gender identity, leaving it up to the shopper to decide what is right for them.

This is the same message that Marc Jacobs is trying to send to his audience, exploring the designer's past themes of perversion, girls who are boys and boys who are girls, people who are neither, and other multifaceted characters in Marc Jacobs' world. In the past, the designer has spoken out about gender fluidity in all spaces, from fashion to beauty: he supports men who wear makeup (opens in new tab), speaks out about being pigeonholed into labels and identification (opens in new tab), is a proud feminist (opens in new tab). In Marc Jacobs' world, you can be who you want to be and ignore the social norms of what is expected of you. (Recall, the designer proposed to her now husband with a flash mob at Chipotle (opens in new tab)!)

Meanwhile, Shoichi Aoki (opens in new tab), creator of the legendary street style bible "FRUiTS," created a lookbook for Marc Jacobs. And best of all, the "Heaven" line comes at an affordable price point. See the new collection below.
