Being a "fashion girl," I have a must-have checklist of "forever pieces" (opens in new tab) that truly stand the test of time. This checklist includes items that are worthy of a classic splurge (such as a Chanel flap bag (opens in new tab) or a Cartier tank watch (opens in new tab)). Before I go into detail about the specific items on my checklist that I buy and love, a fun fact you should know about me is that I hate rain. In my opinion, even a little light rain is worth the $30 Uber ride home from work. Unfortunately, Uber's fees are bulky. I decided it was time to invest my money a little more wisely.
I consulted my checklist and found the perfect solution to my rainy day phobia: the classic Burberry trench coat (opens in new tab).In the 1800s, Thomas Burberry improved the popular "muck" coat to make it more breathable and still weather resistant, The Burberry trench was born, and more than 100 years later, the coat is still effortlessly chic and completely practical, justifying its hefty price tag IMO.
I would define my style as a fusion of classic and funky. When it comes to trenches, I like to add an edge with leather pants and a masculine baseball cap. Sometimes I use mixed prints or bold colors to tone down a loud look.
But the ultimate appeal of this trench, however, is that it pulls together the simplest of outfits. When I'm in the mood to slack off, I pair it with a white T-shirt and relaxed-fit jeans and let the coat do the talking. You can leave the trench open for a laid-back look, or belt it up and cinch the waist for a ladylike look. This trench can easily transition from day to night and from summer to fall and winter to spring.
As I mentioned before, I am a "fashion girl" at heart. But with this Burberry trench, I don't have to sacrifice fashion for function.
My trench also has a detachable hood, which comes in handy when we are hit by torrential downpours (which used to be my worst nightmare, but this coat has helped me overcome my inner demons). With this coat, I don't even need an umbrella. In my line of work, trends come and go, but this Burberry trench will always be a staple. If you agree and/or hate the rain too, get the Burberry trench below.
