Remember when Claire Crawley and Juan Pablo Galavis were dating?
Claire Crawley, the star of this season's (opens in new tab) "Bachelorette" (opens in new tab), first appeared on television screens in 2014 as a contestant on Juan Pablo Galavis' "The Bachelor" (opens in new tab). At the time, and in the years since, he was infamous as the worst Bachelor of all time, and frankly, a big part of that is how he treated Crawley. Thankfully, the time the two spent together also led to one of the most epic fistfights in Bachelor history. Let's take a look back at that glorious moment and everything that led up to it.
Crawley was introduced to us as a contestant who showed up with a fake baby bump. However, she and Galavis quickly became compatible and even had a very steamy moment in the ocean. Later, Galavis had the audacity to humiliate her, saying he didn't want his daughter to see what had happened between them. (Crowley burst into tears, and every Bachelor fan thought out loud: wait, but you chose to have sex on TV too, you son of a bitch."
For poor Crowley, that must have been a huge red flag for what was about to happen; the two also had a terrible, terrible final date (opens in new tab): "When the helicopter landed, we had precious little time together, no cameras, no one together. 'He said things to me that no woman wants to hear. It was insulting, offensive, and made me feel awful." Apparently he told her he wanted to have sex with her after the show, even though he didn't really know her. Yikes.
After all that awful drama, Crowley came in second place and, predictably, Galavis unceremoniously dumped her. Finally, after a season of humiliation, Crowley took the opportunity to lash out at Galavis ("I don't want my children to have a father like you" - ouch). I've seen this 20 times today and I plan to see more:
Of course, Galavis didn't listen at all, but the fans cheered and decided that Crawley was a fan favorite. She appeared in "Bachelor in Paradise" for two seasons and "Bachelor Winter Games" for one. Galavis became a sports consultant (open in new tab) and married Osmariel Villalobos in 2017.
Ah, nothing good can come of it. The fact that Galavis' season was awkwardly recreated in The Bachelor doesn't help matters: Galavis' season was recreated in The Bachelor: The Best Season Ever. Anyway, when Crawley's promo aired, he went on a Twitter rant:
"Funny promo for @Clare_Crawley and @BacheloretteABC's season." Six years later, I know who Juan is that can't get over Juan ... Would love if you take a guess " PS: Claire got over it a long time ago, just in case..."
Oh, he wasn't done yet: "I watched @Clare_Crawley's Bachelorette season guys and it will be interesting to watch her get hit on by 20-somethings.
Crawley wrote back: "And here you are, older than 99% of them and still unable to practice compassion and kindness..."
.
Please give a round of applause.
