Christopher Dansby and Shane Walker: What Happened to Them?

Plot details for unsolved mystery. Content warning: kidnapping In 1989, two small children, Christopher Dunsby and Shane Walker, suddenly disappeared from the Martin Luther King Jr. Tower playground near their home in Harlem, New York. To this day, we know nothing about what happened to the boys or where they are now. Their story is the subject of an episode of Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries, Volume 2 (open in new tab).

The two toddlers were about the same age, Christopher at 2 and Shane at 19 months, and lived in the same building complex (41 West 112th Street, aka the Martin Luther King Jr. Tower in Harlem). The boys' mothers, Rosa Glover and Allison Dunsby, did not know each other; both boys were bright and very protective of their mothers.

Christopher disappeared from the Martin Luther King Jr. Tower playground in May 1989, and Shane disappeared in August of that year. Rosa said she was distracted by someone sitting next to her and took her eyes off her son for a moment. Allison said she left Christopher with his mother because she had to run an errand, but she, too, took her eyes off her son for a brief moment. The two boys then disappeared.

According to police officials, this case is different from other child abductions, in part because of the extreme similarity of the cases. Nothing is known for sure, but at the time, Deputy Chief Ronald J. Fenrick said, "Someone who wants a baby who is not eligible for adoption might steal the baby or hire someone to do so."

Age progression photos (open in new tab) are used in the case to show what the children look like today, 31 years later. According to police, there is still a tip, but the two children's whereabouts are unknown.

Christopher and Shane both disappeared on the same day of the week, Thursday evening. Rosa said she received a strange and upsetting phone call (open in new tab) that her son's body was buried in an abandoned building, but a police search turned up nothing.

According to the Charlie Project (open in new tab), the disappearance of another toddler, Andre Terrance Bryant (open in new tab), was thought to be possibly related to these two disappearances. However, there is a crucial difference between the two cases: Bryant disappeared in March 1989. Andre was only a month old and living in Brooklyn. His mother, Monique Rivera, had recently been lured away from home by two women she had taken shopping. Monique's body was found in the Bronx and Andre was never seen again.
